Phoenix and Firebird: Setting the Standard for Embossed Graphics

Workshop type: Hands-on instruction and production in computer lab designing tactile graphics for embossing on the Phoenix.

Time required: 4-6 hours- Introduction, advanced features and hands–on production

Description: Design of tactile graphics is vitally important to readability by touch. In this session the BANA standards will be applied to design and production. Advanced features of the most recent version of Firebird software will be presented with opportunity to produce tactile graphics from participant's image files.

Outcomes: Participant will:

  • learn basic and advanced features in Firebird
  • learn how to convert and import images
  • discuss and apply best practices in tactile graphics design, based on the newly released "BANA Guidelines and Standards for Tactile Graphics"
  • evaluate graphics embossed by the Phoenix braille and graphics embosser
